The Art & Flow of Private Sessions

50 Hour Teacher Training

SUNDAYS 12 - 2PM EST
April 13 - May 18, 2025

A STUDENT CENTERED APPROACH

In a private yoga lesson, the content of what is taught should be directed by the student rather than by you, the teacher. This is a big departure from how we approach teaching a group class.

In a private lesson, you teach towards where the student wants to go and how they want to feel. Often, students are unclear about what their intentions are for a private session, or they feel as if they lack enough information to fully describe their longing. Even if it feels hard to figure out, private lessons should have a student-driven approach to yoga class planning.

The framework for this 50-hour CUE is designed to be entwined with the chakra system to help guide the growth of your private student.

Understanding where your student has congested energy in the body and how it is impacting their minds and emotions is the first step. Then we choose practices and homework to assign the student that will facilitate the disbursement of that energy and allow for personal growth and development.

Your role becomes partially that of a translator. Taking what the student believes they need and aligning it with congested energy in the chakras, then guiding them through a practice that meets them where they are.

In this SIX WEEK LIVE program you will learn the step by step process of guiding private sessions that feel enriching to your students and fulfilling to your path as a yoga teacher.

(ALL CLASSES LIVE ON ZOOM WITH REPLAYS FOR ALL SESSIONS)

Education: Student-Centered Approach to teaching, Chakra system and human development, kundalini practices and meditations for each chakra, templates for intake, templates for notes, structure & timing of session, marketing and business side of private sessions

Homework: Paired sessions for practice; record a video of you leading a private session

Course topics

A condensed overview of the topics covered in this training

* Each week will include a Kriya Practice & Meditation

Week ONE: Student Centered Approach to Initiating Growth

Dive into the aspect of teaching 1:1 that is different from group class design.

Week TWO: Intake and Assessment

Meeting students where they are comes from knowing what questions to ask during intake. We will also explore our active listening skills and ability to have a plan, while maintaining flexibility.

Week THREE: Setting Intentions & Assessing Outcomes

Your student is in charge. This week is all about how to set appropriate goals and how to know if things are moving in a satisfying direction.

Week FOUR: Structure of Sessions: Balance and Flow

Too much talking. Not enough movement. Too much movement. Rushing through connection. It is hard to navigate time, so in this module we look at the ways we can best support and surrender.

Week FIVE: Boundaries & Ethics

It is important to hold high ethical standards in private sessions. In this section of the program we talk about trauma, healing and strong boundaries.

Week SIX: Contracts, Business & Expectations

Here are the business basics, and how to know you are being valued for your time, and your student is getting the value they are seeking.

BENEFITS OF ONLINE LEARNING

Both in-person and online training formats have strengths and weaknesses. We’ve taught both many times and have brought the best of both worlds to this training.

This training has the same curriculum as our in-person training, and live-taught online training, and the self-paced version brings even more flexibility to ensure your learning needs are met.
